{"id":423,"date":"2016-01-18T18:24:22","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T02:24:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/market.emersongarfield.org\/?p=423"},"modified":"2016-01-18T18:24:22","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T02:24:22","slug":"volunteers-needed-for-2016-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/market.emersongarfield.org\/?p=423","title":{"rendered":"Volunteers Needed for 2016 Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our market is looking for committed\u00a0volunteers for the 2016 season.\u00a0This year the season\u00a0will likely run from June 10 to September 30 (exact dates are still being finalized).<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, we need people who are willing to help\u00a0in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recruiting vendors before and during the market season<\/li>\n<li>Liaising regularly with vendors throughout the season to ensure their needs are being met<\/li>\n<li>Setting up and breaking down the market each Friday (takes place before 3pm and after 7pm)<\/li>\n<li>Staffing the market booth to answer customer inquiries and swipe credit\/debit\/EBT cards in exchange for tokens<\/li>\n<li>Organizing the annual school poster contest<\/li>\n<li>Creating and distributing promotional materials (e.g., posters, flyers)<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining the market&#8217;s social media (e.g., blog and Facebook)<\/li>\n<li>Scheduling activities and musicians each week<\/li>\n<li>Establishing partnerships with likeminded area nonprofits<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating the market&#8217;s participation in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.doh.wa.gov\/YouandYourFamily\/WIC\/FarmersMarket\" target=\"_blank\">FMNP<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wafarmersmarkets.com\" target=\"_blank\">WSFMA<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Collecting vendor tokens, entering weekly tallies and requesting payment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You don&#8217;t necessarily need\u00a0expertise in any of these areas! Our existing volunteers are happy to provide\u00a0one-on-one mentoring.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re also open to working with organizations that are looking for internship placement opportunities. The market offers on-the-job experience in PR, marketing, entrepreneurship, management, budgeting, and lots more. It&#8217;s the perfect learn-by-doing environment to train young adults in these valuable job skills.
