{"id":82,"date":"2015-06-02T11:50:12","date_gmt":"2015-06-02T18:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/market.emersongarfield.org\/?p=82"},"modified":"2015-06-02T12:19:04","modified_gmt":"2015-06-02T19:19:04","slug":"seeking-sponsors-for-kids-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/market.emersongarfield.org\/?p=82","title":{"rendered":"Seeking Sponsors for Kids&#8217; Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholiccharitiesspokane.org\" target=\"_blank\">Catholic Charities Spokane<\/a>, the Emerson-Garfield Farmers&#8217; Market is looking to launch a pilot program of kids&#8217; activities called Kids Eating Right: Nutrition and Exercise for Life (or KERNEL for short).<\/p>\n<p>KERNEL is a youth-oriented nutrition and exercise program that, if successful, will\u00a0be hosted by\u00a0several Spokane area farmers markets. It is designed to actively engage kids in learning about food, exercise and gardening. The proposed scheduled is for\u00a0a 12-week program that has a different module each week. Each module is short in length, but focused on introducing youth to a lifestyle that includes nutrition and exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot program at Emerson-Garfield Farmers&#8217; Market will start on <strong>July 10<\/strong>\u00a0of this year and run through <strong>September 25<\/strong>. We would assume a maximum of 20 participating children per week.<\/p>\n<p>Each child would receive a booklet or passport with the 12-week KERNEL schedule. There would\u00a0be a space for a sticker signifying completion of the module. Each child who completed 10 or more modules would receive a free, signed book at the end of the series.<\/p>\n<p>Proposed modules would include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Planting a seed pot<\/li>\n<li>Basic composting<\/li>\n<li>Yoga<\/li>\n<li>Nutrition bingo<\/li>\n<li>A concert with make-your-own instruments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The market is looking for sponsors to help make this happen. Sponsors could donate enough to cover\u00a0the materials for one week&#8217;s activity (typically $50) or enough for several weeks. The total cost of the entire KERNEL program is anticipated to be $1000.
