Today for your musical pleasure is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brokenwhistleband.com\" target=\"_blank\">Broken Whistle<\/a>\u00a0(pictured above), the band that appeared as if out of the blue last year and had the entire market enthralled by their performance.<\/p>\n<p>At 4pm, we&#8217;re going to be recognizing our <a href=\"http:\/\/market.emersongarfield.org\/?p=70\" target=\"_blank\">market poster contest winners<\/a>, August Nelson and Mason Brazill. These are the two students from local elementary schools (this year we held the contest in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spokaneschools.org\/montessori\" target=\"_blank\">Spokane Public Montessori<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/trinityspokane.com\/school.pl?ac=trinitysch\" target=\"_blank\">Trinity Catholic<\/a>) whose drawings are now featured on our posters and handbills. Each winner will get $15 in market tokens and a hearty helping of thanks. Come out and show these two young \u2014 and clearly talented \u2014 artists your support!<\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the parking lot, master composters will be holding a composting demo. They&#8217;ve been gathering your lawn cuttings, leaves and kitchen scraps for weeks in order to show you how to turn it into nutrient-rich super-soil for your backyard garden. That will be ongoing, so you don&#8217;t have to show up at an appointed time. This activity actually marks the start of several weekly\u00a0hands-on gardening how-tos \u2014 but more on that in time.<\/p>\n<p>Right in the lower level\u00a0of <a href=\"http:\/\/spokaneknoxpc.org\" target=\"_blank\">Knox Presbyterian<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Spokane-Hope-Christian-Reformed-Church-\uc2a4\ud3ec\ucf04-\uc18c\ub9dd\uad50\ud68c\/277606822279283\" target=\"_blank\">Spokane Hope Christian Reformed Church (\uc2a4\ud3ec\ucf04 \uc18c\ub9dd\uad50\ud68c)<\/a>\u00a0will be holding one of their Korean food sales alongside the market. That means you can get hot, freshly prepared, authentic Korean food just a few steps away \u2014 just follow the scent. Grab a bite when you&#8217;re done shopping and enjoy it outside on the lawn or at the picnic table. Incidentally, the Korean Church is scheduled to hold their hot food sale every week.<\/p>\n<p>There are also so many info booths that we lost count. And Petunia&#8217;s will have meat from <a href=\"http:\/\/ramsteadranch.com\" target=\"_blank\">Ramstead Ranch<\/a>\u00a0plus eggs!<\/p>\n<p>Later in the month \u2014 and possibly as early as next week \u2014 we&#8217;ll regularly have certified organic fruit (cherries, peaches, nectarines, apples) from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fullcircle.com\/food-sources\/partner-farms\/r-p-guerrero-farms\/\" target=\"_blank\">R.P. Guerrero Farms<\/a>. As\u00a0they&#8217;ll be traveling from their orchards in Quincy, they want to make sure they&#8217;ve got enough product.<\/p>\n<p>Our regular chair masseuse,\u00a0Rufino A. Zusimbo, was already committed to another event today, but he&#8217;ll be back in the usual &#8220;zen&#8221; spot on the lawn starting next week. We&#8217;ve also been getting some last-minute applicants, so you could very well see someone selling some lovely perennials there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WhatsPoppinSpokane\" target=\"_blank\">What&#8217;s Poppin&#8217; Kettle Corn<\/a>\u00a0is confirmed to be with us\u00a0starting on June 19.<\/p>\n<p>And one more thing: Emerson-Garfield residents (and <em>only\u00a0<\/em>Emerson-Garfield residents)\u00a0will be able pick up dump passes worth $20 each. There&#8217;s a limited number, so get there early.
